Yannis Moralis was an important Greek visual artist, who formed part of the "Generation of the '30s," a groundbreaking art movement in Greece. A true 20th-century classic, Moralis was committed to figurative painting and assimilated modernism, combining it with traditional norms.
Since art works in mysterious ways, the acclaimed young fashion designer Angelos Bratis drew inspiration from Yannis Moralis for his dresses-only Spring-Summer 2015 collection, shown at the Teatro Armani.

“I chose Moralis because I have always liked the way this artist used geometry, interchangeable shapes and the balance between them. I wanted my collection to be all about fluidity and show my audience the Greek side of colourblocking” says Bratis. "I drew inspiration from the Piraeus docks which Moralis had decorated in the 50s but, unfortunately, were torn down.

Moralis was so minimal he did not even use walls for the outbuildings. He preferred triangles in different colours to refer to boats, birds and the sea." Angelos Bratis is a Greek designer currently living in Milan, where he works as a designer of his eponymous collection and consultant for noted fashion houses.
