MedeaNet is a project funded by the European Commission with the aim to promote e-learning. Two elementary schools, one in Sparta, Greece and the other one in Ylöjärvi, Finland won the 2014 MEDEA Award (European Collaboration in Educational Media) for exchanging multimedia material intended for educational purposes.

The idea behind this contest is to produce a digital story which would bring different cultures closer. The Greek pupils drew inspiration from a verse of a poem by Odysseus Elytis: If you deconstruct Greece, at the end you will see that you are left with an olive tree, a vineyard and a boat. The children added an orange tree, putting together their own digital story. In the age of user generated content, media literacy is an absolute prerequisite. Hence, the e-twinning platform, a digital community for schools in Europe which offers school teachers seminars and training programmes.

The winners were announced during the MEDEA Awards Ceremony in December, which took place in Brussels, as part of the Media & Learning Conference. The competition attracted 237 entries from 29 countries.
