  • Deputy FM in South Africa Visit
Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Tsiaras sealed a visit to South Africa last week with the signing of an economic cooperation agreement on November 2, with South African Transport Minister Benedict Martins. The agreement aims at enhancing and expanding economic ties between the two countries, encouraging cooperation between enterprises, and promoting investments.

In South Africa, Tsiaras visited Johannesburg, where he paid a visit to the Greek South African School S.A.H.E.T.I. He also met with Metropolitan Damaskinos of Johannesburg and Pretoria, the President of the philanthropic organization Hellenic Orthodox Ladies’ Association (HOLA) as well as with the Federation of Hellenic Associations of South Africa and representatives of the Greek communities of Cape Town and Durban.

  •  UN Envoy Nimetz on Greece’s Memorandum Proposal to FYROM
Matthew Nimetz, United Nations Special Envoy for talks between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on the name issue, termed Greece’s recently unveiled proposal towards the resolution of the name issue as "a significant step."

In early October 2012, Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos sent a letter to FYROM Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, proposing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that sets the framework and the basic parameters for a definitive resolution of the name issue.
