Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met in Athens, on November 2, with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov and reaffirmed the historical friendship ties that bind the two countries.

The two officials also discussed the enhancement of bilateral cooperation in all sectors combined with upgraded political contacts at the highest possible level.

They discussed the progress of consultations towards on the signing of a new Greek Russian Action Plan for 2013-2015, and future cooperation in the sectors of energy and tourism between the two countries.

Avramopoulos noted that Greece is one of the staunchest supporters of EU-Russian relations, and reiterated Greece’s support for a Schengen visa waiver for Russian tourists visiting the EU. On his part, Titov confirmed that Russian FM Sergey Lavrov will be visiting Greece in early 2013, following an official invitation by his Greek counterpart.
