The Chief of the General Staff of Greece, General Michalis Kostarakos, was elected as the new chairman of the EU Military Committee (EUMC). The vote was held during the Conference of the Military Committee of the European Union by the Chiefs of the Armed Forces of the Member States of the European Union, in Brussels on Thursday’s (11.13).

The president of the Military Committee is elected for three years; the Greek Chief of the General Staff will assume his new duties in November 2015. The Greek Defence Minister, Nikos Dendias, in a statement, expressed his congratulations to the Chief of the General Staff, noting that "his success is also the success of Greece and our Armed Forces." He added that he is confident that the Chief of the General Staff will work efficiently "to build a new strategy for the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union towards a truly united Europe."
