"Poseidon," one of George Zongolopoulos’ most emblematic sculptures will be installed permanently in Washington DC.

The sculpture, which was donated by the George Zongolopoulos Foundation in Athens, will be installed at the George Washington University (GWU) campus during a ceremony that will take place on October 1 in the US capital, and will be attended by the GWU authorities and prominent members of the Greek diaspora in the US. The 12-foot stainless steel work by the renowned Greek sculptor was originally included in the award-winning sculptural composition with water jets that George Zongolopoulos created in 1960 for Omonia Square in Athens.

Until recently, Poseidon was exhibited, along with five other sculptures by Zongolopoulos, at the Sculpture Park of Psihiko in Northern Athens, renamed George Zongolopoulos Square. Starting October 1, it will adorn the entrance at GWU’s Milken School of Public Health, situated at New Hampsire Ave in the centre of the US capital.

At the same time, an exhibition dedicated to George Zongolopoulos and his work will be hosted on the premises of the Milken School of Public Health. Zongolopoulos was famous for his iconic large scale works, many of which are installed in cities all around Europe, including works in front of EU buildings in Brussels.
