Prime Minister Antonis Samaras forecast that 2014 will be another exceptional year for tourism, addressing the 22nd open general assembly of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) on April 30.

For 2014, Samaras estimated that Greek tourism will break the record it registered last year, when arrivals from abroad, including cruise passengers, climbed to 20.1 million, according to Bank of Greece figures released this week.

He further announced plans for the government to invest €500 million per year on in major tourism infrastructure for the next six years.

The funds for tourism investment will come from the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), while the private sector is expected to invest €3 billion. Outlining the government's plans for boosting tourism, the premier spoke about 13 steps “including a change in the direction of commercial strategy, the development of quality infrastructure and increase in investment, strengthening the cruise and marina sectors, facilitating the issuance of visas and reducing airport charges.”
