Great news for tourists! The new extended operating hours of 33 museums and archaeological sites is an initiative that has been put into effect by the Ministry of Culture as of April 1.

Tourists will have the chance to visit landmark museums and sites from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, until the end of the season (October 31, 2014). The selected sites include the Acropolis in Athens, Ancient Olympia in the Peloponnese, the Palace of Knossos in Crete, Spinalonga islet in north-eastern Crete, the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Vergina) and many, many more.

According to data, 12 million tourists visited Greece’s museums and archaeological sites last year out of a total 17.8 million, who came to the country for vacation.
