The long-awaited 64th Berlin International Film Festival ("Berlinale") is opening its doors from February 6 to 16. Greek cinema lives up to its reputation once more and is present in all sections of this year’s edition. To mikro psari/Stratos by Yannis Economides, the story of a detached, contract killer represents Greece in the Official Competition programme.
The Blue Wave (Mavi Dalga) by Zeynep Dadak and Merve Kayan (Turkey/Germany / Netherlands /Greece) will participate in the Generation 14plus section. The film uses its strong young female cast to convey the contradictory feeling of being on the cusp between one’s youth and an uncertain future.
Finally, the Cypriot/Greek/German Happy Birthday by Christos Georgiou is featuring in the Berlinale Co-production Market. A special reference should also being made to the premiere of The Two Faces of January, a psychological thriller filmed at the Acropolis and at the picturesque Old Port area of Chania and environs.
