Registration has begun for the 9th International Alexander the Great Marathon, which will take place on April 6, in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece. The marathon is part of the events supported by the "Thessaloniki European Youth Capital 2014" agency.
The race begins at the statue of Alexander the Great, in Pella, the birthplace of the legendary king and the capital of ancient Macedonia, finishing by the White Tower.
This is the second largest marathon event in Greece after the Athens Classic Marathon, and the top event in northern Greece taking place along a 42km route. There are also 10km, 5km and 1km road races. An International Trade Show "Alexander the Great" Marathon Expo will also take place, of the numerous parallel events.
