Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras attended the Council of Finance ministers (ECOFIN) of the Eurozone that took place in Brussels yesterday. “A lot of progress has been made, also at social and political costs for the Greek society, and I think we fully acknowledge that,” while emphasising the need for progress on agreed terms, the Chairman of eurozone finance ministers Jeroen Dijsselbloem said after a meeting of the group. Stournaras stressed the need to achieve what he called the "golden mean" in negotiations with the troika.
Specifically, Dijsselbloem stressed that the Greek authorities should quickly make progress in four main areas: to implement the prior actions of the fourth program evaluation; to cover the financial gap for 2014 and 2015; to advance structural reforms, and to speed up privatisations.
"Views are converging," Stournaras said. "We differ on some matters. Whatever hole there is in the budget will be filled with measures of a structural nature that have budget benefits. I am confident."
