On Wednesday November 13, National Defence Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos spoke at an event organized by the Constantine G. Karamanlis Chair in Hellenic and European Studies, at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of the Tufts University of Boston, on "The New Geopolitical Role of Greece."
Avramopoulos referred to the Cyprus issue and the recent statements made by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and pointed out that the solution of the Cyprus issue will serve as a catalyst for a full restoration of Greek-Turkish relations and mainly, it will put an end to a pending issue that is an insult to international legality.
He also underlined that "… the Cyprus issue is key to the normalization of the Greek-Turkish relations and Turkey's European course." With regard to US-Greece relations, Avramopoulos underlined that the two countries relations were further boosted by the eurozone crisis and the regional instability in Arab countries.
