A roundtable meeting of six EU countries representatives and China on boosting agricultural cooperation between China and the Mediterranean was held in Rome on February 13.

Rural Development and Food Minister, Athanasios Tsaftaris, along with his counterparts from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Malta and Cyprus, met with China’s Vice President of the State Council, Hui Liangyu and Deputy Agriculture Minister, Niu Dun.

The meeting focused on Mediterranean food exports from the EU to China, as well as on cooperation in agricultural research and technology. There is great interest in Mediterranean products on the Chinese part, Tsaftaris commented following the meeting, adding that the Chinese delegation expressed particular interest in Greek olive oil, cotton and wines. A second roundtable meeting will be held in China, following an invitation of the Chinese delegation.
