  • Papadiamantis @ The Michael Cacoyannis Foundation
Noted Greek director Dimos Avdeliodis presents the play The Homesick, by acclaimed novelist Alexandros Papadiamantis, at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, on January 19.

Lalio, a young woman married to a man her father’s age, has a desire to return to her native island. Her encounter with an 18 year-old boy who has fallen in love with her, inspires her, on an impulse, to get on a boat and leave for her homeland.  
  • Brecht @ The Onassis Cultural Centre
Young director Katerina Evagelatou presents Bertolt Brecht’s Der gute Mensch von Sezuan (The good person of Szechwan) at the Onassis Cultural Centre from January 23 until February 10.

The play centres on a young prostitute, Shen Te, who, in her struggle to lead a life that is virtuous, is forced to invent an alter ego in order to survive.

Lincoln Charity Premiere in Athens

Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis will be in Athens on January 22 for a charity premiere of his new film Lincoln.

The premiere will take place at the Pallas Theatre and all the proceeds of the event will be donated to the Hellenic Spastic Society's Open Door Center.

  • Nicola Conte @ Gazarte
Nicola Conte, the Italian DJ, producer, guitarist and bandleader plays at Gazarte on January 18 and 19. 

Conte is known for introducing an innovative style of acid jazz that incorporates bossa nova themes, melodies from the Italian cinema of the '60s, ethnic Indian music and lounge music.

Arcadi Volodos @ The Athens Concert Hall
    One of the world’s finest pianists, Arcadi Volodos, is performing Schubert, Brahms and Schumann at the Athens Concert Hall on January 22.

    His unique sense of phrasing, colour and poetry have made him an ideal narrator of romantic musical tales.

    The eminent American sociologist Richard Sennett, will discuss the theme of City and Citizenship at the Onassis Cultural Centre, on January 21.

    Sennett is best known for his studies of social ties in cities, and the effects of urban living on individuals in the modern world.
