I simply want our life here to become more human.
We need to return to those places to find much of what is still important and authentic to our lives.
Theo Angelopoulos
Theo Angelopoulos’ works will be screened in movie theatres around Athens on January 24- 30, to mark the first anniversary of his death while working on his latest film The Other Sea; a fitting memorial for the director, who felt that only cinema screens could do justice to his dreamlike long-take film sequences.
His enduring meditations on Greek identity, the recurring themes of exile and return and his particular take on history will once again confront audience in a retrospective featuring almost his entire filmography, from his signature films O Thiassos (The Travelling Players, 1975) and To Vlemma toy Odyssea (Ulysses’ Gaze, 1995) to the lesser known documentary Athens, Return to the Acropolis, putting forth once more the inexorable question of The Suspended Step of the Stork : "How many borders do we have to cross to reach home?."
