  • In search for the Gymnasium of Ancient Olympia
Archaeologists are beginning excavations in Ancient Olympia, with the expectation of unveiling a large part of the Gymnasium that was used  in antiquity as an area for the athletes to train before the Games. Remains of the building are visible today, having been unearthed during works on the road separating the archaeological site and the Museum.

To facilitate the excavations, the entrance to the archaeological site will be moved further to the east. Ultimately a new route for visiting the area will be delineated to include the new findings.
However, of  more interest to the public will probably be the fact that they can watch the archaeologists in action, during the excavations!
