Following the historical re-enactment of the trial of Socrates held at the Onassis Foundation in New York last year, the Foundation is repeating the legendary philosopher’s trial at his home city of Athens.

The New Trial of Socrates will take place at the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens on May 25. Top American and European judges have examined the trial material depicted in the works of Plato, Xenophon and Aristophanes and the Athenian legal rules  in effect at that time.

The trial will not be a faithful reenactment, but a modern perspective that leads to Socrates’ acquittal through modern and ancient legal framework and theatrical parts.
