A Greek-Swiss memorandum on energy and environmental policy, foreseeing the exchange of knowhow and investments was signed on March 26, in Berne, by Greek Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister George Papaconstantinou and Swiss Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications Minister Doris Leuthard. During their meeting, Papaconstantinou and Leuthard discussed the Helios solar power project and issues regarding natural gas transfer, with special focus on the South Corridor.

In statements following the signing of the agreement, Papaconstantinou said Greece is shifting its policy toward energy conservation and stressed that there is great potential of further cooperation between the two countries.

On her part, Leuthard expressed Switzerland’s strong interest in the Helios project and cooperation on energy conservation.

Moreover, Papaconstantinou travelled to Helsinki where he met with Finland’s Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen and addressed the Grand Committee of the Finnish Parliament on the progress of the Greek economy.
