Greek small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) appear to be shifting towards green market models, according to a Eurobarometer survey on SMEs and transition to green economy. The survey, released on March 27, showed that 31% of Greek SMEs offer green products, while the EU average is at 26%. Furthermore, findings indicate that 45% of Greek SMEs claim to have at least one full- or part-time employee whose work involves promoting green products and services, compared to a 37% EU average.

Regarding activity sectors, 40% of the Greek "green" SMEs seem to focus on environmentally-friendly products and services, such as organic food, another 30% focus on recycling, while 21% deal with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and solid waste management.

Although 87% of EU green businesses, operate mainly in national markets, Greek green SMEs are more export-oriented, as 37% of these businesses do business in EU countries, 6% in Africa and the Middle East, 5% in Asia and the South Pacific and 5% in Latin America.
