FESTIVAL
The British Council in collaboration with the Greek Film Archive is organising a series of events in the framework of the global Dickens 2012 year, marking the bicentenary celebration of the iconic British writer. The programme includes screenings, discussions and workshops which take place on March 29 to April 3 in Athens and April 5 to 7 in Thessaloniki.
LECTURE
What would it have been like to see and hear public speeches in Greece during the 5th and 4th centuries BC? Dr. Christopher L. Johnstone and Dr. Richard Graff have undertaken a comprehensive, systematic study of the settings in which ancient Greek rhetoric was practiced and will be holding a lecture on the topic today at the Athens Centre.
MUSIC
- AT Riot @ Gagarin
German electronic punkers Atari Teenage Riot come to Athens for the first time. The highly political, Berlin-based group will be at the Gagarin stage for one concert on March 30.
Stephan Micus @ Thessaloniki Megaron
World Music master Stephan Micus brings his musical genius to Thessaloniki Concert Hall on March 31. The German composer and virtuoso creates unique music combining traditional instruments from all over the world and plays all the instruments in his recordings.
A tirbute to the musical tradition of the Ionian Islands will be hosted at Badminton theatre on April 2. With largely Venetian roots and a long tradition of opera and operetta, the music of the Ionian Islands is considered the most "Western" of Greek folk music. The concert will trace the history of this tradition, from the masters of the Ionian School to serenades and modern day composers, a unique opportunity to savour this special traditional music.
