- Preparatory School in Ghana
The St. Nicholas Preparatory School, a school project launched by the Greek community of Ghana, was inaugurated on March 8 at the Tema Manhean fishing community in the Greater Accra Region. The $100,000 school project, aimed at providing education opportunities for 27 underprivileged children, is an initiative by the Maria Tsakos Foundation, supported by various Greek businesses in the country.
It is to be followed by another $100,000 phase, which foresees a senior high school, and ultimately, a vocational college in the next two to ten years.
The first Orthodox School in Sierra Leone, hosting approximately 1,800 pupils, was inaugurated on February 28 by the Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, Theodore II. The school has been built in the courtyard of the Cathedral of St. Eleftherios, in the country’s capital city, Freetown.
During his stay in Sierra Leone, Patriarch Theodore II also inaugurated the Educational Institute of the Diocese and a School of Journalism, which is the first one to be established in the country.
