The first findings of a Greek-Italian project on marine antiquities were presented on March 9 at an international symposium held at the University of Bologna in Italy.
In 2010, the Italian University’s Meduproject Company and the Underwater Antiquities Ephorate of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism co-organised a summer seminar course to study a shipwreck near the small island of Sapienza, south of Messenia.
The study was coordinated by Professor Andrea Nanetti, professor of Byzantine History in the College Year in Athens and the Venice Ca’ Foscari University. Research will continue in the small islands south of Messenia, as the area is one of the most interesting in the Mediterranean, in terms of researching marine antiquities.
