Prime Minister George Papandreou proceeded to a cabinet reshuffle yesterday. The new cabinet was sworn in today at noon before the President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias.

The new cabinet comprises 48 members, as opposed to 37 in the previous cabinet, and a new ministry is being established, the one of Maritime Affairs, Islands and Fisheries, led by the newly appointed minister, Yiannis Diamantidis.

Interior Minister Yiannis Rangoussis will be given additional competences, setting out a strategic plan for the cabinet’s moves, and enhancing the government’s work communicationwise.

Further changes include the change in both the name and leadership of the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness, and Shipping (ECS). Michalis Chrysohoidis, former Citizen Protection minister is placed in charge of the new Ministry of Regional Development and Competitiveness minister, whereas Former ECS Minister Louka Katseli is transferred to the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance.

Former Health Minister Marilena Xenogiannakopoulou is transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Alternate Minister, in charge of European Affairs, as the incumbent Alternate Minister Dimitris Droutsas was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Finally, a new foreign investments portfolio is created and assigned to the Minister of State, Haris Pamboukis.
