The Olympic Flame for the Warsaw European Special Olympics 2010 was lit yesterday in Ferres, Evros. The ceremony took place in the crypt of the Byzantine Monastery of Panagia Kosmosoteira.

The torch relay that followed brought the flame to the Evros Delta Wetland, where participants embarked on a cruise.

The flame will continue its journey through six European capitals and 56 Polish cities before arriving to Warsaw, in time for the opening ceremony on the 18th of September and will light the Legia Stadium until the 23rd of September.

These are the first Special Olympics ever to be held in Poland, which becomes the first Eastern European country to host the Games.
