Beyond Dress Codes, a thematic exhibition that explores the links between traditional Greek dress and contemporary fashion, starts on September 27 at the Hellenic American Union Galleries.
The month-long exhibition will feature, on one end, a collection of coloured drawings of traditional Greek dress and headdresses by sketch artist Gissis Papageorgiou, which constitutes the most extensive inventory of Greek traditional dress.
On the other end, it will display contemporary fashion creations by Greek and foreign designers, including Gaultier, Galliano, Sofia Kokosalaki and Thanos Kyriakides, in an attempt to prove that traditional dress is still fashionably relevant. A 12-volume edition on Greek traditional dress by the Hellenic American Union will follow.
