Thessaloniki’s annual Dimitria Festival is the most important cultural event in Greece’s 'second city' and Northern Greece, transforming Thessaloniki into a large cultural worksite with a series of major artistic & intellectual events; it also heralds autumn and all the hustle and bustle the recommencement of the academic year and the return to the city of its large student population involves.Themed "Futureβαλ: A Festival for our Future", this 50th edition of festival opened its doors on September 26 and will run through October 18.
A long standing institution that has evolved into an umbrella for several cultural events transcending national, cultural or religious boundaries, Dimitria has its roots in 12th century Byzantine Thessaloniki, and is named after the city’s Patron Saint, Aghios Dimitrios (St. Demetrius).
A rich programme of 41 events filled with art, theatre, music, dance, talks, literature and street happenings, guarantees that the 50th Dimitria Festival will turn autumn days into a colorful celebration of culture. Don’t miss it!
