The 21st Athens International Film Festival - "Opening Nights" will be bringing the best of independent cinema to the Greek capital, from September 23 to October 4, featuring more than 180 films from all over the world and three competition sections: International, Music&Film, and a special competitive section with Greek short films. The festival will open with "Youth", a film on life, love and art by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino.
True to its original concept, the festival seeks indie diamonds in the rough, as well as a hand-picked selection of avant-premieres, much-talked about documentaries, a marvelous combination of music and film, as well as all-time classics and midnight screenings. The festival programme will also include special tributes, a series of workshops and lectures, parties and sidebar events, such as "Athens Film Lab" - a film development programme that offers local filmmakers and producers the opportunity to refine their concepts and get in touch with international acclaimed professionals.
It's worth noting that Athens International Film Festival - Opening Nights, is among the best festivals in Europe, according to the EFFE platform [Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe], for the period 2015-2016.
