The French documentary "Salt People (Greece in Camargue)," detailing the lives of Greek salt workers living in Salin-de-Giraud, France, has been fully funded via Touscoprod – the leading crowdfunding platform dedicated to films.

The “salt people’s” ancestors came mostly from the island of Kalymnos to work in the salt fields. It depicts how this small group of Greek diaspora members struggled financially and tried to establish a community far from home.

Director Thomas Gayrard’s grand-father was one of those who came to Salin-de-Giraud, and his mother -Annie Maïllis, wrote a book called Les Grecs en Camargue, un exil entre sel et mer.

Gayrard says that while he was working on various documentaries about the Greek diaspora, he "noticed that there were no films detailing the lives and struggles of the Greek diaspora," and wanted to fix this by making a movie that, in his own words, would "give a voice to the men and women who came to the 'edge of the world.'"
