F E S T I V A L
  • Moving Silence Festival @ Goethe-Institut Athen
The 2015 Moving Silence Festival will take place at the Goethe-Institut Athen on March 12-16. Inspired by the "Portrait", the festival focuses on the silent screening of contemporary films that are accompanied with live soundtracks. The programme also includes a workshop and an exhibition on GIF art. Eleven short silent films - ranging from geographical to human portraits, and a tribute to the silent era as well as 3D character design - will open the event (12/3).

E X H I B I T I O N 
  • Mare Mineralis @ Athens Art Gallery
Distinguished Greek painter Irene Iliopoulou is exhibiting her new work at the Athens Art Gallery: the display opens tonight and runs through April 18. The exhibition is titled Mare Mineralis and consists of 6 large and 15 smaller watercolours. The artist "does not gaze at the sea, but closely observes tiny islets at eye level, which intensifies the feeling of solitude and serenity."

  • The Happy Dog Project @ Faust
The group Happy Dog Project was formed in Athens in 2000; over the past decade, it created its own blend of sound that mixes the funky / hip hop groove with jazz improvisations along with Greek and Balkan musical traditions. The group, which has performed at international events such as the Akbank Jazz Festival Istanbul and London Hyde Park Jazz Festival, will now play in Athens, at Faust Bar, on March 15.
  • Ilhan Ersahin @ Gazarte
The great Turkish-Swedish saxophonist, producer and composer, Ilhan Ersahin, one of the most creative musicians on the contemporary jazz scene, will play at the   Gazarte, on March 13. Established in New York since 1990, Ersahin is a jazz musician with Turkish roots, and a genuine cosmopolitan who has contributed significantly to reshaping jazz. As the founder of a club and a record label that would house the innovative musical ideas, Ersahin contributed to the creation of a unique sound that became known as aesthetics Nublu.

  • Elizabeth Bishop Tribute @ Hellenic American Union
The Hellenic American Union is holding a poetry evening as a tribute to American poet and Pulitzer Prize winner Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979), on March 17. Eleven poets will read poems by Bishop in both the original and their new translations, prepared especially for this event; Orfeas Apergis, Antonia Gounaropoulou-Touriki, Yiannis Doukas, Lenia Safiropoulou, Katerina Iliopoulou and many more. Patricia Kolaiti will present the poet’s life and work.

  • Presenting Grèce hebdo
Grèce Hebdo (GH), the weekly on-line French bulletin of the General Secretariat of Information and Communication will host a special event at Lexikopoleio bookstore on March 23, to acquaint the public with various aspects of this francophone publication! The GH team welcomes all comments and suggestions and invites its readers to fill in a concise on-line questionnaire before the event that will provide useful feedback for further discussion!
