By 2030, the European Union aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% (compared to 1990 levels), boost renewable energy by at least 27%, and improve energy efficiency by at least 27%. These goals are included in the "Road to Paris," a roadmap specialising the EU’s vision and expectations in the run-up to the international climate negotiations in Paris in December, 2015.

Greece was represented at the ministerial meeting of March 6 by Environment, Energy and Climate Change Alternate Minister Yannis Tsironis.

The Minister highlighted the need for the agreed cuts in CO2 emissions to not be undermined by developments in the field of human alteration of landscapes and land-use changes (i.e. forests turned into agricultural land).
