Last Friday (6.03), Finance Minister Yianis Varoufakis submitted to Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem a list of reform proposals to form the basis for discussion at today’s meeting of eurozone finance ministers. In his letter, Varoufakis said that talks between the institutions and Greece must begin so that the specific reforms will be a first series of measures ahead of the completion of the agreement in April.

Dijsselbloem has responded positively to the proposals sent to him by Varoufakis. In his response, Dijsselbloem stressed the need to continue talks both in the Euroworking Group and among technical experts, in order to put into effect the previous Eurogroup decision (20.02), to consider extending financial assistance to Greece. Once steps to reach these goals are taken, Greece would become eligible for more credit from the Eurozone and the International Monetary Fund, and its banks could again finance themselves at European Central Bank open market operations.

Today’s Eurogroup will begin at 15:30 in Brussels. Watch via live streamin on Europe by Satellite here.
