Professor of Psychology and Medical Sciences of the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) George Paxinos, who 30 years ago published the Atlas of the Human Brain, has designed 3D maps, which have opened new prospects to brain surgery; surgeons can approach any suffering region by making just a small incision. Further, comparative studies between embryos are now possible, so that diseases like Parkinson and Alzheimer are fought.Professor Paxinos, has recently received the international medicine prize Pioneer Award from the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics, for his 30 years of excellence. "It is good to have your work recognised - and they had to choose between many good people, so I am happy they considered my work worth," said Mr. Paxinos.
