This year’s international shipping exhibition Posidonia 2014 – a biennial event - is taking place on June 2-6 at the Athens Metropolitan Expo centre on the premises of the Athens International Airport (AIA), and is considered the biggest in the event’s long history.

Shipping & Aegean Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis characterised “Posidonia 2014” as a feast of shipping, during a press conference hosted yesterday. He noted that “Posidonia expo coincides with positive news for the country,” noting that “it has returned to the international markets, public finances are going well and we have a surplus, while tourist arrivals are expected to increase.”

Organizers expect it will break records in terms of both the number of participating countries and the size of the exhibition, while the conferences and seminars program is significantly larger than the previous Posidonia event in 2012. More than 1,800 exhibitors and some 19,000 visitors from a record 93 countries and territories are expected to attend, demonstrating the trademark event’s ever growing global appeal.
