The President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias received yesterday his Lebanese counterpart General Michel Sleiman, who is on a three-day official visit to Greece. The two presidents held discussions on the prospect of closer cooperation in the fields of investment, energy, tourism, trade, defence and agriculture.

Papoulias expressed support for Lebanon’s struggle to preserve peace within its borders in a troubled area. Sleiman expressed gratitude for Greece’s support and its efforts to preserve stability in the Middle East.

The two presidents also chaired a meeting between delegations  from both governments. Later, Sleiman was received by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, and the two men discussed issues related to the strengthening of bilateral relations. Today, Sleiman is scheduled to meet Archbishop Ieronimos and Parliament Speaker Evangelos Meimarakis, while both presidents will also address a Greek-Lebanese Business Council meeting.

The Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) will be hosting the meeting to be attended by government officials and businessmen from the two countries.
