On November 17, Greece commemorated the 39th anniversary of the students’ uprising at the National Technical University of Athens (Polytechnic School) against the military junta that ruled the country from 1967 to 1974. Celebrations culminated on Saturday with the participation of thousands of people in the annual march from the Polytechnic School to the American Embassy.

The uprising was the most significant popular protest against the seven-year dictatorship. Starting November 15, 1973 thousands of students occupied the National Technical University of Athens, transmitting messages of resistance against the junta.
