Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos received yesterday his Palestinian Authority counterpart Riyad al-Malki, who is currently visiting Athens. At a joint press conference, both ministers reaffirmed the strong ties between the two peoples. Avramopoulos reiterated Greece’s longstanding position in favour of the creation of an independent Palestinian state that will coexist with Israel in peace and security.

He also affirmed that Greece will not recognize changes to the 1967 borders in Israel and Palestine unless there is prior agreement between the two sides. Al-Malki expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meetings with his Greek counterpart and thanked Greece for its support, while also reaffirming his wish for peaceful coexistence with Israel.
