Swimmer Spyros Gianniotis won the final race and the champion’s title at the 10 kilometres open water FINA World Cup in Shantou, China, on October 13, to end the season in the best possible way. "I am perfectly satisfied with all the races. I have met my target which was to clinch the top spot in the World Cup," said Gianniotis, who finished fourth in the London Olympics and was the world champion in the men's 10km open water event at the 2011 FINA World Championships.

Greek cross-country mountain biker Periklis Ilias is the new World Champion of the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships held on October 6-7 at Ornans, France. After an amazing performance, Ilias completed the 84-km marathon race within 4 hours, 18 minutes and 17 seconds, prevailing over 138 mountain racers.
