After winning the European regional title at the 21st Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, a group of students from the Law Faculty of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, went on to reach second place at the 2012 annual global competition, in which 54 universities from around the world participated.

The Greek team, which included university students Ekaterini Pitsoli, Melina-Asimina Stroungi, Stefania Vlachou.

Coached by faculty lecturer Georgios Kyriakopoulos, the team had  already won the European regional competition in April 2012 and headed for the world competition, which this year took place in Naples, Italy, in early October.The Greek team won the semifinal round against the American regional winners from the University of California.


In the final round, which was judged by three International Court of Justice judges, the Greek team lost to the National Law School of India University in Bangalore, the Asian regional winners, and were thus runners up of the 2012 global competition. This was the first time since 2004 that a European team reached the final round.
