The question of what is new and
exciting in Greece today is also the main premise of this year’s Greek
participation at the 67th Frankfurt Book Fair, taking place October 14 - 18.
Organized by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, it aims to promote New Greek Voices - contemporary authors
narrating the Greece of today, namely the experience of a harsh social reality
brought on by the economic crisis, and its acute and far-reaching consequences
for many.
The Greek presence will be
complemented by the latest in categories which continue to attract interest
from international book professionals, including the National Book Awards 2014, Greek books in translation
from the past two years, as
well as recent editions (literature, poetry, essays, children’s books, young
adult literature, coffee table and illustrated books) presented under the title
“Narratives of Greece”.
Designed
by artist Xara Marantidou, the Greek
Stand will also host a New Greek Comics exhibition, as well as book and
literary projects events and presentations, including “Diary of an Infidelity” (Emilios Solomou, Cyprus winning author: 2013 EU
Prize for Literature), the Letters from Greece web-project, and the Futures: poetry of the Greek crisis collection to be published next month.
