Athens’ squares, pedestrian walkways, theatres and neighborhoods will liven up this summer with over 150 cultural events; the municipality of Athens’ Summer in the City program, which kicked off on June 14, features various interesting events including Afghan music and swing concerts, poetry nights and theater performances, taking place across town.

During a press conference on June 11, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis presented the three-month series of events (in Greek). The hot spots are the Kolonos Open Theater, the courtyard of the National Archaeological Museum, the Strefi Hill, as well as most of Athens’ neighbourhoods. The highlights of the summer are the Shadow Puppet Theatre in Athens, the 7th Athens School Festival, European Music Day and the 5th Athens Open Air Film Festival. Part of the revenues will go towards the city’s homeless.
