Barilla Hellas, Greece’s biggest pasta producer, completed an investment worth €1.2m in its facilities
in Volos, as part of a wider investment programme worth €70m implemented in Greece in the last 20 years.
The project included a new production line and advanced technological equipment for the further reduction of energy consumption by more than 15%. The plant in Volos had already cut electricity consumption by 20% and water consumption by 62% since 2012.

Overall, the investment is expected to raise the plant’s production capacity by 33%. Furthermore, this new investment will contribute to local economy by absorbing domestic agricultural production and capitalising on its geographic position in central Greece. In its statement, the company notes that “Barilla is strengthening its strategic choice to take advantage of the country's comparative advantage as a natural pole of business access to markets in Eastern Europe”.
Greece is the third country in Europe where Barilla owns offices, production units and mills.
