Romania is virtually the top destination of Greek foreign investment; 323 new companies of Greek interest (in Greek) were founded in 2013 in Romania, according to figures recently released by Romania's Commerce Registry (ONRC).

A report by the Greek embassy in Bucharest showed that active companies -of Greek interest, with a Greek participation of at least 20% in their equity capital- totaled around 1,250 by the end of 2013. Greek investment in these companies surpassed € 1.68 billion in 2013, as compared to € 1.67 billion the previous year, ranking Greece sixth among foreign direct investors in Romania (following Holland, Austria, Germany, France and Cyprus).

According to the report, the value of Greek investments in Romania -with investments by Greek companies based in third countries included- surpass € 4.0 billion, ranking Greece between fourth and fifth among foreign investors in the country. Greek investments fell in 2011 and 2012, but rose in 2013.
