The Athens Concert Hall, in collaboration with the Association of Friends of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi held a special event in tribute of eminent university professor and Byzantinologist, Hélène Glykatzi-Ahrweiler on October 1.

The tribute was presented by the journalist Thanasis Lalas, in collaboration with the artist Eleftheria Deko, who has put together a theatrical documentary, selecting pieces from his personal 16-hour visual and audio material.

Glykatzi-Ahrweiler was born in Athens in 1926, to a family of refugees from Asia Minor. She finished her studies in Athens and in 1953, she moved to Paris to pursue her education and academic career. In 1976-1981, she became Rector of the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, the first woman to hold that post. In 1982, French President François Mitterrand named her Rector of the Academy of Paris and Chancellor of the Universities of Paris, a post she held until 1989. From 1989 to 1991, she was president of the Centre Georges Pompidou. Glykatzi-Ahrweiler is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Greece.
