Government spokeswoman Sofia Voultepsi announced yesterday (1.10) that it will seek a vote of confidence when the Parliament’s plenary session reconvenes on Monday, October 6, after the summer recess, according to article 84 of the Constitution.

The announcement came after a meeting between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Evangelos Venizelos, president of PASOK, the government’s junior coalition partner. The coalition government currently holds a majority of 154 seats in the 300-member Parliament.

Voultepsi added that the procedure of electing a new President of the Hellenic Republic would begin as scheduled in February 2015, a month before the term of incumbent Karolos Papoulias ends.
