During the recent NATO Summit in Wales (4-5.09), a global alliance of states was created to coordinate efforts against the Islamic State, the actions of “have provoked the outrage and unanimous condemnation of the entire civilized world.” Countries like the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Turkey, Australia and Canada stated in Cardiff their readiness to participate in the specific proposal. The Greek Foreign Ministry responded positively on September 12 to this announcement of the creation of this global alliance.

The Greek Foreign ministry has announced today: "We welcome and express our political support for the creation of a global alliance of states that will coordinate the international efforts against the Islamic State, a terrorist organization whose activities have provoked the outrage and unanimous condemnation of the entire civilized world. We express our solidarity with the Iraqi government, with the Christians and all of the distressed ethnic and religious communities in the region that have suffered from the base and barbaric actions of the so-called Islamic Caliphate, an extremist jihadist organization that must be obliterated."
