The inhabitants of Syros, the vast majority of which belonged to the Catholic denomination up to the mid-19th century, used to build chapels in the countryside, which looked exactly like orthodox chapels on the outside, while their interior attested to their affiliation with the Western-type churches in dogma and aesthetics.
Platon Rivellis photographed, between 2010 and 2012, the few chapels left standing, which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
