For the 36th year running, the worldwide community of museums will celebrate International Museum Day on May 18, 2014. This year, the theme is: Museum collections make connections, a reminder that museums are living institutions that create bonds between visitors, generations and cultures around the world.

Greece celebrates Museum Day with various events, including exhibitions, educational programs for students of primary and secondary education, workshops, conferences, lectures and guided tour at museums, monuments, archaeological sites and cultural institutions from 3 May to 18 June.

It is noted that this year the International Council of Museums – Hellenic National Committee, honours the Byzantine and Christian Museum, which celebrates 100 years since its foundation, for its contribution to the protection, study and promotion of Byzantine culture.

Greek museums will once again take part in the worldwide celebration of International Museum Day and open free of charge on Sunday 18 May 2014.
