The
Schneider Electric Paris Marathon takes place on April 6 this year, and for the first time at this event, the marathon winners will receive symbolic olive wreaths, from the trees planted at the
Tomb of Marathon. A total of 12 wreaths will be given to the top three winners in each of the men’s, women’s and handicapped men’s and women’s categories, respectively. One hundred nations and 50,000 runners will be competing, and the event is expected to attract more than 65,000 visitors.
Winning athletes in Ancient Greek Games received an olive wreath, and this has now become the historic symbol of the Marathon Battle, in 490 B.C., which was decisive not only for the history of Athens but for Europe, and Western Civilization.
