Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta expressed their support for a peaceful and viable solution in Ukraine, following the latest developments in the region, in statements following their meeting at Maximos Mansion on yesterday (18.03).

Samaras said that the solution found should respect the integrity of the countries, adding that secessionist movements do not help, and that he is opposed to moves that would assist the division in any European country and developing a cold war climate.

Ponta stated that he clearly supports the EU position to solve these problems and avoid a cold war. The two leaders discussed all bilateral issues, such as Greek investments in Romania. Samaras expressed his support for Romania's accession to Schengen Treaty, while Ponta congratulated him on Greece's efforts to deal with the economic crisis.

Samaras said that Greece, which has the EU presidency, was seeking a pre-accession agreement and the implementation of the agreement on visas. He also announced that he would visit Moldova on April 8.

The Romanian premier also met with President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias.
