The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is celebrated on March 21st. This year’s theme, “The Role of Leaders in Combatting Racism and Racial Discrimination" is highlighting the key role of leaders in mobilising political will to combat racism and racial discrimination. In his message, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias, said that the fight against fascism and racism should be an ongoing battle that involves all people, in order to avoid future holocausts.

To celebrate the Day, the Ministry of Justice is organizing a special event: today (21.03), 2,500 children of different nationalities, including children with disabilities, will form a human chain around the Parthenon with the motto "We hug the Acropolis, We hug democracy, We hug humanity," sending out a "peaceful and creative co-existence."
